gentle moon
brimming with somnolence

a crystalline beacon projecting
deep into the recesses of
my darkly lit room
coaxing me to step out for a kiss

a high-spirited golden retriever
opulent fur
protruding tongue
adds animation to the twilight

another case of an animal
outshining the bleakness
of a lonesome walk to the grocery store
closest to my home

1.

a robin laid to rest
entrails splayed
crestfallen spirit idling overhead
raw forest fillet

2.

minute maggots chip
at our fallen friend
reduced to mere
beak and putrid plumage

3.

carrion is in
short supply
matted into the
soil and debris
